(Nicholas Ostler is a consultant on the Language Industries, working for Touche Ross Management Consultants. For two years, 1988–90, he was an Assistant Director in the DTI's Information Engineering Directorate. He has previously led a project in the ESPRIT programme, and worked on machine translation at Fujitsu Research Labs in Tokyo.)
