Recent Advances in Extraction and Bioactivity of Active Ingredients from Beverage Plants

Studies on the extraction and the bioactivity of beverage plant-derived active ingredients are conducive to an improved understanding of the components, complex compositions, properties, traits, and functions, along with the effects on human health. However, the development of novel extraction techniques and the discovery of new biological activities are facing severe challenges due to the wide range of physicochemical properties. The integration of plant biology, material science, analytical chemistry, pharmaceutical science, and food engineering is essential to open up a new avenue for the exploration of effective components in beverage plants, rationalizing their purification and application. Hence, novel extraction strategies and practical values of beverage plant-based active ingredients are attracting more and more attention in both the academia and the industry.

In order to facilitate interdisciplinary fusion and technical development, this special issue features original articles and review articles devoted to the novel and/or state-of-the-art extraction methods and applications of active ingredients from beverage plants, including, but not limited to, the following topics:

● Identification of the composition and structure of the active ingredients in beverage plants.

● Utilization of novel analytical methods to discover new active ingredients in beverage plants.

● Studies on the biological activity of active ingredients derived from beverage plants.

● Novel methods for purification and impurities removal of active ingredients in beverage plants.

● Chemosynthesis and biosynthesis of beverage plant-derived active ingredients.

● New technologies/devices for supervising of the beverage quality related to active ingredients.

● Active ingredients from beverage plants with homogeneity of food and medicine, and fresh conception on the homology.

The deadline for manuscript submissions is December 31, 2024, but we can accommodate extensions on a case-by-case basis. All papers will be published as open access articles upon acceptance.
